Brennan Johnson scored twice for Nottingham Forest on Saturday to sit top of the City Ground goalscoring charts for 2021/22. He scored two well-taken goals in the first half and afterwards, Loic Mbe Soh and Philip Zinckernagel reacted on Instagram.
The 20-year-old talisman has now scored 14 goals during the current campaign. Since the turn of the year, he’s been truly remarkable and has justified the vast amount of Premier League interest in his services.
Keeping hold of Johnson won’t be easy in January. Brentford saw four bids rejected during the January transfer window, with their final offer of £20 million offering Forest something of a conundrum on deadline day.
Steve Cooper and Dane Murphy standing firm looks more than justified now. Since the window closed, Johnson has come into his own and right now, he’s playing as well as any other player currently operating in the Championship.
Interest will naturally be rife in the summer. Bigger clubs could come forward and with just a year remaining on his current deal, Forest will find themselves in a perilous position at the moment.
Johnson will hope to finish with a flourish. Just like his dad did previously, he will have one eye on scoring 20 goals for the season by continuing to fire the Reds towards the play-offs.
What have Zinckernagel and Mbe Soh said about Forest man Johnson?
It was Danish forward Zinckernagel who opened the scoring at Blackpool. His shot goalwards was deflected over the Tangerines’ goalkeeper and into the net for a perfect start for Forest.
After the game, he summed up the performance of Johnson using just a single word. He called the player a beast in a nod towards his ridiculously lethal finishing.
Mbe Soh was on the bench for Forest at Bloomfield Road and he too summed up the performance of Johnson at Blackpool with one word.
The French defender will have been delighted to be back in the squad and he will now hope to get a chance between now and May.
