Nottingham Forest Under-23s beat Stoke yesterday and one man who showcased his talent was summer signing Billy Fewster.

The 18-year-old signed terms at Forest after being released by Leeds United and he’s been a regular in Andy Reid’s team this season.

Fewster has grown as a player in the Forest academy and he’s made 19 appearances for the young guns during 2021/22.

The central midfielder has scored twice during the campaign. Yesterday he highlighted just how capable he is with a mature performance.

It’s not really clear why Fewster was released by Leeds. The Whites do possess a wonderful academy and perhaps he felt the pathway was clearer at the City Ground.

A brace from Ateef Konate saw Forest claim their eighth win in 10 matches against Stoke. Reid’s men continue to chase a place in the play-offs.

Fewster will hope to keep his place in the team for the remainder of the campaign and the teenager looks like an exciting talent.

Fewster will excite Forest supporters; he’s similar to Ryan Yates

One thing that was strikingly obvious in Fewster’s performance yesterday is that he’s very similar to first-team star Ryan Yates.

If you’d squinted at the laptop whilst watching the game on YouTube, you’d have been forgiven for thinking it was actually Yates strutting his stuff in midfield.

Aside from his running style being akin to Yates, his overall play in the middle of the park was very similar too.

Fewster worked tirelessly hard in and out of possession. Furthermore, when he had time and space he didn’t hesitate to pick a forward pass out.

At 18, the midfielder is perhaps some way off a first-team chance.

Even next season, Yates, Jack Colback, Cafu and Braian Ojeda will all likely be ahead of the Forest under-23 starlet.

His progress this season has been good though. As a result, if he continues showing the same level of commitment as Yates has done, the future could be incredibly bright.
