Nottingham Forest star Scott McKenna has told BBC Radio Nottingham that his goal on Saturday came off of his ear of the back of his head.

The Scotland international grabbed Forest’s second goal during a 2-0 win over Birmingham City at the City Ground.

McKenna was in fine form as the Reds went third in the Championship, claiming maximum points of a weekend where those around them didn’t.

Forest are on course for at least a place in the play-offs now and they’ll hope to continue picking up positive results.

McKenna has claimed it was a big week for the football club, although concedes he knew little about his latest goal.

He told Radio Nottingham: “It’s been a great week for us, especially off the back of an international break. It’s not always easy to pick up that form when you’ve got boys away on international duty. It’s been a brilliant week for us.

“When the games come thick and fast and the players are high on confidence the wins can really flow. We’ve taken advantage of that this week.

“It came right off my ear or the back of my head. I didn’t even see it go in but it went in so no complaints. I meant it of course.”

McKenna looks nailed-on for Forest Player of the Year accolade

People who vote for the end of season award should note that it should be judged on performances over the whole campaign.

On that basis, there can ultimately only be one serious contender and it’s the uncompromising Scotland international.

McKenna hasn’t missed a single Championship game and has been truly instrumental for the Reds since arriving from Aberdeen.

Supporters love him and they’d dearly love to see him help the club back into the Premier League between now and the end of the season.
