Everton will target a central defender in the summer and Nottingham Forest man Joe Worrall is firmly on Frank Lampard’s radar, according to The US Sun.

Worrall has risen through the ranks at Forest and is currently the man wearing the captain’s armband in Steve Cooper’s team.

The 25-year-old has made 173 appearances for Forest. He made his debut under Philippe Montanier in a 2-0 defeat away to Reading and he’s not really looked back.

A small bump in the road came ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. Aitor Karanka didn’t really fancy him and decided that his development would be better served on loan with Rangers.

At Ibrox, he learned a lot from Steven Gerrard. He got a sample of Europa League football, making 32 appearances in total, scoring once for the Gers.

The Forest man has been attracting interest from the Premier League for some time. West Ham, Southampton and Brentford have all been touted with moves in the past.

Worrall is a Nottingham-born academy star and the club will want paying accordingly if they are to be tempted into a sale.

Everton are scrapping for their lives down towards the relegation zone in the Premier League. They will hope to kick on next season and challenge higher up the division.

Forest can keep Worrall by winning promotion

Someone like the central defender is unlikely to hold a desire to leave if the Reds reach their ultimate goal of becoming a top-flight club.

It would give Worrall great pleasure to lead the team out next season, wearing the famous Premier League badges on his sleeves.

There is, however, a lot of work still to be done. In the meantime, Premier League clubs will be flocking to watch Forest after five straight wins and a squad boasting some unreal talent.

Everton have been shocking defensively this season. As a result, it’s no surprise to see their name linked with a move for Worrall.
