Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Adlene Guedioura has left Burton Albion by mutual consent the club has confirmed.

BBC Sport also reported the news with the Algerian departing before the end of a short-term contract.

Guedioura checked in at the Pirelli Stadium back in October, shortly after he left Sheffield United on the back of Slavisa Jokanovic leaving.

The 36-year-old only made four appearances in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s team, scoring twice.

He linked up with Algeria for their recent World Cup qualifiers and a defeat to Cameroon meant they were denied a place at the competition in Qatar.

Assistant boss Dino Maamria told BBC Sport: “Algeria not qualifying for the World Cup hit him hard.

“His family are in Qatar and we both agreed that we would move on from the short-term agreement.

“He was good for us in the short period he was here, he had quality on the pitch and off it.”

Guedioura has struggled to really settle down at any club in England. He made 100 appearances for Forest over three different spells at the City Ground.

The midfielder also turned out for Wolves, Middlesbrough, Watford, Crystal Palace and the Blades.

This won’t come as a surprise to Forest fans regarding Guedioura

The maestro was brilliant when he first arrived on loan and turned his deal permanent. He soon upped sticks and left for Palace, however, once they’d cast a flirty glance in his direction.

That didn’t go down particularly well with the fan base so when Aitor Karanka re-signed him some years later it was met with some angst.

Guedioura didn’t do too bad but he’s never really stuck at one place too long during his time in England.

As a result, it’s perhaps no surprise to see him leave Burton prematurely.

This time does seem like a legitimate reason though and it can’t be easy for any player to be so far away from his family.

At 36 remains to be seen whether Guedioura will now call time on his career in professional football.
