Nottingham Forest Under-23s were stunned in the semi-finals of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup last night as Carlton Town beat them 2-1.

Forest opened the scoring through Ateef Konate who continued his fine run of form for the young Reds outfit.

A second-half quick salvo from Carlton talisman Nat Watson saw the hosts prevail, however. They will meet either Mansfield Town or Newark FC in the final next month.

For the Reds, it was a second-half to forget. They played really well during the first 45 but allowed the Millers to have the majority of the play during the closing stages of the game.

Still, there are bigger fish to fry for Andy Reid’s men this season. His team was light of several regular players, with one eye on the end of season play-offs.

Forest are still nicely poised to grab one of those places and they’re currently in very decent form on the domestic front.

One man who continues to showcase his future credentials is Konate and he was once again a livewire for Forest last night.

He has enjoyed this season at the club and made three appearances in the first team; including one under Steve Cooper in the Championship.

Konate set for bright Forest future

It’s unclear what the contract situation is with Konate but he does look like a player that the club should be holding on to.

He’s showcased some unbelievable brilliance for the under-23s this season and his goals have helped the team climb the Premier League 2 table.

  • RECORD: Forest feat stays intact as Chelsea lose

Konate signed from Le Havre and he’s been catching the eye of the academy staff since arriving on UK soil.

Forest didn’t get the result they wanted last night but ultimately this proved a useful test for lots of players against a good non-league outfit.

The challenge for Konate is to keep scoring goals, earn a City Ground extension and then make the step up to impress Cooper further.
