The end of the Championship season is upon us and for Nottingham Forest supporters, it’s been a campaign to saviour.

Since Steve Cooper arrived at the club there has been a real turnaround in fortunes and he’s propelled the team into promotion contention.

Forest are well in the hunt for a play-off berth and could yet challenge Bournemouth for a place in the top two.

As the season draws to a gripping climax, we’ve looked at six players who could be in contention for the Player of the Season award when Forest’s campaign ends.

James Garner

The on-loan Manchester United man is firmly in the mix for this accolade, not least for his performances during the second half of the campaign.

He has been a fantastic player for Forest over the last 18 months and this season he showcased some defensive solidity to go with his unbelievable ball-playing ability.

Garner didn’t arrive until the end of August and it took him some time to become a regular under Cooper, but he remains a contender for the accolade.

Scott McKenna

The Scotland man should be close to the top of most supporters’ list. He has been head and shoulders above lots of players throughout the campaign and is yet to miss a league fixture.

McKenna has been truly outstanding since arriving from Aberdeen. This year he’s looked at home on the left-hand side of a back three and plays with a lot of passion.

The 25-year-old has been a remarkable signing for Forest and he’d be a worthy winner of the award this season.

Brennan Johnson

With 15 goals and eight assists to his name, it’s hard to look beyond Johnson as one of the main contenders for the award.

Since returning from a loan with Lincoln, he’s looked like a man determined to prove that he’s capable of performing in the Championship.

Johnson has attracted interest from the Premier League and Forest face a fight to keep him in the summer.

The man who some fans simply can’t bring themselves to hand any praise to might actually be a popular pick among other fans.

Very few players divide opinion quite like the 24-year-old academy graduate but under Cooper, he’s been magnificent.

He’s scored eight times this season and under a proper coach, he’s starting to really come of age.

Djed Spence

They say that fans shouldn’t fall in love with a loan player but Forest fans were head over heels for Spence months ago.

In every game he’s featured for the Reds, he’s been largely superb and fans will be dreading the day he goes back to Middlesbrough.

Spence has scored three times for the Reds and registered five assists. As a result, the right-back will be n the mix for the end of season award.

Joe Worrall

Mr Nottingham Forest himself will almost certainly be in the mix for Player of the Season.

He has come back from a couple of injuries this season and played in a 4-1 win over Leicester with a few cracked ribs and scored in a major cup upset.

Worrall could join a Premier League club in the summer and him winning the coveted award would be a nice parting shot.
