Former Nottingham Forest playmaker Joao Carvalho has predicted the Reds to win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Forest currently occupy fifth spot in the Championship, with results going the team’s way after Friday’s defeat at Luton.

The Reds are still nicely poised for a play-off place. Steve Cooper’s team play West Brom under the City Ground lights tomorrow night looking for a return to winning ways.

Carvalho left the City Ground in January. He joined Olympiacos on a permanent deal after struggling for game time on Trentside.

The club’s record signing didn’t really get a chance under Cooper, with the Welshman preferring other options.

Carvalho has still been extremely complimentary about his former club and has made an intriguing prediction.

He told The Sun: “This season if I can bet for a team to be promoted I would bet on Nottingham Forest for sure because I know the quality is there.

“I know how good the coach is as well because I like the way he works. He works every day to improve the team.

“The results are there and if I could bet for a team it would be then, for sure.”

Forest fans will hope Carvalho is right

The Reds are riding the crest of a wave just now but there is still lots of football left to play this season.

Forest are firmly in contention for a place in the end of season play-offs and the Reds will hope to cement their position in the coming weeks.

A few more wins from the remaining six games and the Reds should put some daylight between them and their rivals.

Things never quite worked out for Carvalho at Forest amid a host of negative managers who couldn’t accommodate him.

The player might have fancied getting in the team over time under a more attack-minded coach in Cooper.

It wasn’t to be though and the time was right for him to leave.

Supporters will now hope that he’s proven right when it comes to his promotion prediction.
