Nottingham Forest are to run the rule over Nicholas Ioannou during pre-season ahead of next season, according to Nottinghamshire Live.

The Cyprus international is currently on loan at Como in Italy’s second division but he will have a year left on his contract in the summer.

Steve Cooper will have a look at the left-back before assessing whether to loan him out again or move him on permanently.

The 26-year-old arrived at Forest from APOEL Nicosia. Last season, he spent time on loan at Aris in Greece where he made 10 appearances.

One Player Your Club MUST Sell This Summer (2022)

During his time in Italy this season, he’s quickly held down a place in the team, scoring once and registering two assists in 27 appearances.

Forest may find themselves on the lookout for a left-back in the summer. Max Lowe will return to Sheffield United and Gaetan Bong will be released.

Richie Laryea was added but he predominantly plays on the right-hand side of the defensive unit.

That looks like opening the door for Ioannou to try and revive his Forest career.

Since checking in he’s made just five appearances for the Reds; with Chris Hughton choosing to loan him out after a red card during a 1-1 draw with Luton last season.

Ioannou is capable of playing in the wing-back role and Cooper will get the final say on whether or not he has a future at the club.

Forest could still offload Ioannou

Cooper has improved every single player since checking in at the City Ground. With that in mind, why not let Ioannou have another chance under his influence.

Ioannou didn’t look bad when he was called upon last season and perhaps he’d be a useful option from the bench.

At 26 he still has time on his side and perhaps he will be reborn under some proper coaching.

It does seem likely that Forest will still target a new left-back but Ioannou certainly has what it takes to he a squad option at the City Ground.
