Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo in January. The Reds had a deadline day bid rejected by Bristol City, with the Robins valuing him around the £20 million mark.

Yesterday, the young talisman did something that Forest fans will have found comical. He scored during a 3-1 win over Derby County at Pride Park to compound the relegated Rams’ misery.

The 22-year-old capitalised on some poor defending from Richard Stearman. He dispossessed the centre-back before lashing home left-footed beyond Ryan Allsop.

Semenyo has now scored seven goals and claimed 10 assists during 2021/22. He’s attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with Celtic and Forest likely to remain keen.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

The striker typically operates through the middle, although his game is about far more than goals and he could play behind a frontman too.

Semenyo will have a year to run on his deal in the summer. As a result, Bristol City might have to lower their valuation of the player or risk losing him for free.

The youngster is bound to attract interest during the summer. Nigel Pearson would love to keep his star man but Bristol City will definitely be fielding some calls.

Derby down with a whimper and Forest fans will have enjoyed Semenyo show

Despite the bizarre media love-in over Derby and their valiant efforts, they’re going down to League One with nothing more than a whimper.

Bristol City have nothing to play for yet they put the Rams to the slaughter with relative ease. Fighting to the end is apparently off the agenda for now.

For Forest, they will be monitoring Semenyo with intrigue. If the club remains a Championship outfit. the striker might be out of their reach financially.

Promotion is on the cards though for the Reds and perhaps that could lead to a bid for the talented Robins academy graduate.

Semenyo can seriously play and he’d prove a useful addition to the Forest ranks if a deal can be struck.
