Former Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Mackie has lauded Brennan Johnson on the EFL on Quest highlights show.
The Reds beat Peterborough 1-0 with Sam Surridge scoring the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time.
It puts Forest in a commanding position when it comes to rubber stamping their top-six place.
The Reds still have two games in most of the teams hunting down a place in the play-offs.
Middlesbrough can catch Forest but they would need to win all three of their remaining games and hope the Reds don’t win another point.
The Reds have now won seven of their last eight fixtures and few teams would fancy facing Forest over two legs.
It was Johnson who caught the eye of Mackie and spoke about his brilliance after yesterday’s game.
He told EFL on Quest: “It’s another brilliant result on the road for Nottingham Forest. It’s that man Johnson again and he’s been outstanding this season. Double figures in both categories is just brilliant. It’s a great finish from Surridge but it’s all about the quality of Johnson.”
Forest have a real gem in Johnson and now the club must act
The Reds have to start getting serious when it comes to offering Johnson a new deal.
The academy graduate is out of contract in the summer and Forest simply can’t lose him on the cheap in the summer.
Johnson has been magnificent for the Reds this season scoring 16 goals and now claiming 10 assists.
The 20-year-old has been a constant menace in this season’s Championship campaign and he has half of the Premier League chasing him.
Right now, he’s playing week in and week out at Forest and that is clearly what’s best for his development.
The Reds might not be able to keep hold of Johnson in the long-term but ultimately, a new deal would help Forest retain their value.
