New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to take a look at James Garner following his Nottingham Forest spell, according to Football League World.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Reds over the past 18 months and he could have a future at Old Trafford.
Garner has made 42 appearances for the Reds during 2021/22, scoring four goals and registering eight assists for the team.
He has been a brilliant player since Steve Cooper came to the club and Forest will surely be asking United some questions in the summer.
The future could be bright for Garner under Ten Hag, however. It’s claimed that the manager who loves to utilise youth, will take a look at him in pre-season.
United’s hopes of reaching the top four are evaporating and there could be a serious void to fill in midfield next season.
Garner has been on the books at United for many years and will go back to the club full of confidence after two Forest spells.
First, the Reds will hope the midfielder can help them join his parent club in the Premier League. Forest have four games to play and need just a point to guarantee a play-off spot.
Garner could thrive under Ten Hag, much to Forest dismay
United must be delighted with Forest for giving Garner the platform to star on a weekly basis. In 62 appearances for the Reds, he’s scored eight goals and claimed eight assists.
Now, he will want a chance at Old Trafford. In Ten Hag, United might just have appointed the perfect manager to get the very best out of Garner.
The England under-21 man is so talented. He has worked hard on the defensive side of his game this season and he could fill the void for a number six at Old Trafford.
Forest would dearly love to get Garner back. Whether that’s on another loan or on a permanent deal is likely to depend on how Ten Hag sees things.
It does seem likely, however, that Garner will grasp his United chance with both hands. As a result, he could become a real star of the future at Old Trafford.
