Nottingham Forest defender Djed Spence was named in the Championship Team of the Season at Sunday’s EFL awards ceremony. Afterwards, he posted a message on Instagram and received praise from Cafu and Brennan Johnson.
The Reds were well represented in the Team of the Year. Ryan Yates and Joe Worrall were also named in the selected 11, with Brennan Johnson winning the Championship Young Player of the Year.
Forest have been playing some sensational football under Steve Cooper. They’ve gone from the bottom of the table when he took over to be on the cusp of securing a play-off place with four matches left to play.
The Reds travel to the capital this evening to face champions-elect Fulham. Forest were battered 4-0 by the Cottagers in October but will hope to flex their newfound promotion credentials later this evening.
Spence has been instrumental in the Forest team this season. He’s made 39 appearances for the club and has even earned a call-up to the England under-21 ranks for his performances in the Garibaldi.
The talented performer is set for stardom when he leaves Forest. The Reds will undoubtedly be in the race to sign him if promotion is secured; if not, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United are all waiting to pounce.
What have Cafu and Johnson said about Forest performer Spence?
Both Forest players have been very complimentary to Spence. The pair have witnessed first-hand just how much quality the player has, with Johnson, in particular, striking up a wonderful partnership.
Cafu hasn’t played much this season. He has, however, been a regular in Cooper’s squads and hasn’t disappointed anyone when he has been called upon by the head coach.
Johnson has been instrumental. He has scored 16 goals and claimed 10 assists during the 2021/22 campaign. Like Spence, he also looks set for stardom when the time is right to leave Forest.
Both players have raved about Spence. He seems like a popular member of the dressing room and clearly, his teammates are delighted to see him named in the Team of the Year.
