Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson has collected the EFL Young Player of the Year award at an awards ceremony in London. Afterwards, he received praise on Instagram from Alex Mighten and Arsenal flyer Bukayo Saka.

Johnson has been in truly sensational form during 2021/22. He’s found the net on 16 occasions and has also joined the double-double club by bringing up his tenth assist of the campaign at Peterborough on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is attracting vast Premier League interest. Brentford saw no fewer than four bids rejected in January; with Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton and Leeds all thought to be monitoring Johnson ahead of the summer.

Last season, the academy graduate spent time on loan with Lincoln. During his time in League One, he was a regular in Michael Appleton’s team, scoring 13 goals and claiming 14 assists as the Imps reached the Play-Off Final.

Forest fans were keen to get him back to the City Ground, although few could have predicted such a standout campaign. He’s currently the team’s top goalscorer and there is, even more, to come from him this season.

What have Roberts and Saka said to Forest star Johnson

After he beat off Djed Spence and Fulham star Fabio Carvalho, Johnson took to Instagram. There he received praise from several teammates from both club and country.

Mighten came through the Forest ranks at a similar stage to Johnson. Clearly, the two are good friends and he’s spoken of his pride at seeing the forward claim such a prestigious accolade.

Saka is coming of age with Arsenal. Following the disappointment of missing a penalty for England in the Euro 2020 Final, he’s quickly put them behind him and he’s set to help the Gunners return to the Champions League.

He summed up how he felt regarding Johnson’s award with a single emoji on his Instagram post.

Johnson will hope to star once more as Forest take on Fulham tonight. A win at Craven Cottage could really have the Reds dreaming of automatic promotion once again.
