Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman has jumped to the defence of Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper during an astonishing TalkSPORT phone-in.

The man who typically never has much positive to say about Forest, called up the Jim White Show when Simon Jordan went to town on the Reds boss.

Cooper secured a play-off place for the Reds last night. He masterminded a massive 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Now, Forest are dreaming of automatic promotion to the Premier League and with three more wins they should reach the top flight.

Goodman surprised TalkSPORT and called in this morning when Jordan went on one of his customary rants about Cooper.

He claimed that Cooper would be deemed a perennial loser if he was to reach the play-offs for the third time as a manager and not win them.

The Sky Sports pundit said in response to Jordan: “You say if they lose in the play-offs that’s a failure but they were bottom when he took over.

“Is it a brilliant achievement from where he’s taken them from? I would say so.”

Goodman is right about Cooper but Forest fans will be shocked at praise

The Sky Sports co-commentator going out of his way to praise Forest sounds like something from a parallel universe.

But, he couldn’t sit back and let Jordan ridicule him any longer, picking up the phone and having his say on the Forest boss.

It has to be said that he’s right too. Cooper has achieved great things at Forest; even without actually achieving success just yet.

Forget what is happening on the pitch, the head coach has revived the club from top to bottom. As a result, the feel-good factor is back on Trentside.

If anybody needed a real indicator as to just how well Forest are currently doing, Goodman bowing down from his usual vendetta and praising Cooper says everything.
