Gary Lineker has suggested that he wants to see Nottingham Forest promoted back to the Premier League.
Tonight, the Reds will take on Bournemouth in their penultimate Championship contest of the season.
A win for the Cherries would see them promoted, whilst a win for Forest would put them in second place ahead of their final match of the season.
Forest have gone from the bottom of the table when Steve Cooper took over to third in the Championship in a little under eight months.
Tonight could see the team take a giant step towards the Premier League and it would see that Lineker is keen to see the Reds return.
Forest did play his club, Leicester City, in the FA Cup earlier during the 2021/22 campaign.
The Reds ran out 4-1 winners and reached the quarter-final where they eventually lost to Liverpool.
Forest haven’t played Leicester in the Premier League since 1999 but they’re on the cusp of classing that as a league fixture once again.
A win over Bournemouth tonight would mean that Forest head to Hull on Saturday knowing that three points should see them promoted.
Lineker wants Forest promoted
It might seem odd for a Leicester fan to throw support behind Forest but that’s what Lineker has done.
Christian Hewgill also works for BBC and he spoke of his desire to see Forest win a Premier League place.
A Reds fan claimed that Lineker wouldn’t share his views but the Match of the Day host replied implying that he would.
With Derby in League One next season, the Reds would at least get themselves some sort of local derby if they were to join Leicester in the Premier League.
If they were to remain in the Championship it’s clear that there wouldn’t be a derby for supporters to enjoy.
Lineker wants to see Forest promoted and in the next few days, he might just get his wish.
