Brian Laws raved about Nottingham Forest star Djed Spence for his first-half performance against Bournemouth last night.

The former right-back was summarising on BBC Radio Nottingham as the Reds’ automatic promotion hopes evaporated on the south coast.

Forest were beaten 1-0 by the Cherries. Phil Billing teed up Keiffer Moore at a well-worked free-kick to send the Vitality Stadium into their raptures.

It was the home side’s just rewards for a second-half dominance that saw Forest largely unable to get out of their own half.

Moore’s goal sparked a pitch invasion at the end of the contest and ultimately the Reds must fight another day in the play-offs.

Laws was pretty pleased at half-time; with Forest doing a lot of the pressing during the opening stages.

He was particularly impressed with one player and raved about Spence for one particular moment in the contest.

Laws told BBC Radio Nottingham: “There you’re seeing Spence at his best! He drove 20 or 30 yards inside and delivered a sensational ball.”

Spence is on loan at Forest and Laws isn’t the first person this season to rave about the 21-year-old for his performances.

He has been in fine form and in March he earned a first call-up to the England under-21 team after his heroics for the Reds.

The on-loan Middlesbrough player has been in fine form. He’s taken his game to a new level and Forest have benefited from that.

The Reds can’t let last night be a performance to dwell on. It was one of those nights where a couple of missed chances and some poor officiating cost them dearly.

Spence will get a big move in the summer, with Boro hoping to recoup around £15 million for his services.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are all keen and it remains to be seen where he will end up.
