Only one Nottingham Forest player has been named in the Sky Sports Team of the Season and Brennan Johnson has been omitted.

Djed Spence is the man who has been named in the team but despite 17 goals and 10 assists, Johnson hasn’t made the cut.

The Team of the Year is compiled by Sky with the help of Who Scored. They work out ratings using their own unique style but Johnson hasn’t made it.

With 27 goal involvements, it really is staggering not to see him included but Spence’s form will be celebrated.

The defender joined Forest on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. He’d fallen down the pecking order under Neil Warnock and the Reds offered him a chance to prove himself.

Spence has been magnificent for Forest. He has been a mainstay under Steve Cooper and even won a call up to the England under-21 squad earlier this season.

The 21-year-old now has Europe’s top clubs watching him. Boro will sell him in the summer, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayern all linked with a move for his services.

Johnson not making the team is ridiculous. No player under the age of 21 has claimed more goal involvements this season and his omission is desperately strange.

Johnson omitted from Team of the Season and Forest man must prove a point

The talented youngster has been fantastic for Forest during 2021/22 and several clubs have been watching him.

Johnson not being selected by Who Scored makes a mockery of how they produce their statistics with QPR man Chris Willock making the grade ahead of him.

The Forest man will have a big say over whether or not the Reds can overcome Sheffield United and reach Wembley in the play-offs.

He will hope to add to his tally of goals and throw the latest Team of the Season into further disarray.
