Nottingham Forest Under-23 head coach Andy Reid has sent a message to the senior ranks ahead of tonight’s play-off semi-final second leg against Sheffield United.
The Reds are leading 2-1 from the first leg at Bramall Lane. Jack Colback and Brennan Johnson scored at the weekend to give Forest the initiative.
Tonight will be a different challenge though, with Forest now the team looking to make home advantage count on the banks of the River Trent.
Forest have enjoyed a remarkable rise up the Championship under Steve Cooper. The Welshman took charge when the Reds were bottom of the table after eight games of the season.
The team secured a play-off place pretty comfortably and were in with a shout of automatic promotion until the 45th game of the campaign.
Forest went into Saturday with a defeat and a draw from their last two games and some supporters were concerned the team have been burnt out.
Forest came good again though. The one disappointment from Saturday’s trip to South Yorkshire was that the team didn’t score a few more goals.
Still, had a one-goal advantage been offered to Cooper before kick-off at the weekend, he’d have likely grasped it with both hands.
Reid sends message to Forest ahead of Sheffield United test
The under-23 ranks have enjoyed a sound maiden season playing in Premier League 2. They reached the play-off semi-final before narrowly losing to Stoke City on Sunday.
Reid has got the team playing some wonderful football. He’s a Forest man through and through from his two spells as a player at the football club.
Ahead of tonight’s game, he has heaped praise on Forest. He has clearly enjoyed the campaign and would love to see the Reds progress to the final.
Cooper has firmly brought the feel-good factor back to the City Ground. Forest have one final hurdle to overcome to make it a maiden trip to the new Wembley Stadium for the club.
Sheffield United possess an abundance of quality but with Cooper at the helm, few would be backing against Forest getting a positive result on Trentside this evening!
