Billy Sharp has sent a classy message after a mindless Nottingham Forest supporter attacked him after last night’s win for the Reds.

The striker wasn’t in the squad for either leg of the semi-final against Forest. He’s been nursing a muscle problem and wasn’t passed fit.

He may have made the Wembley final but now he has a chance to rest ahead of another season in the Championship for the Blades.

The incident last night brought shame on Forest. A memorable night should have been celebrated in style and instead, column inches are being filled with the attack on Sharp.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

What makes the attack more bizarre is that the talisman is a former Reds star. The 36-year-old scored 11 times for the club in 40 appearances during 2012/13.

This season he’s been in fine form for his boyhood club. He’s found the net 15 times and Paul Heckingbottom’s team missed him in the play-offs.

It’s such a shame that these people still exist in today’s society. Football has no place for such acts and more needs to be done to prevent them.

Sharp needed stitches after the attack and now he’s taken to Twitter to discuss what happened following the defeat for Sheffield United.

Sharp sends classy response to Forest fans

The experienced striker was always welcomed by the Reds fan base. Some had feared that he might now see the Reds in a different light after this incident.

That doesn’t appear to be the case though. His response this morning was that one mindless individual won’t tarnish how he feels towards the club.

Sharp clearly enjoyed his time at the City Ground. He did fall down the pecking order when Billy Davies replaced Sean O’Driscoll and that ended any hopes of a permanent deal.

Forest will now move on to Wembley. They will take on Huddersfield to try and secure a place in the Premier League next season.

Sharp has recently extended his contract at Sheffield United. If he stays fit, you can bet he will be near the top of the scoring charts again next season.
