Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Luke Steele has made a comical quip about the class of 2022 custodian Brice Samba.

Steele was the club’s backup stopper for the Reds between 2018 and 2020 and also spent a short period on loan with Millwall.

Now 37-years-old, he plays as a striker for non-league outfit Deeping Rangers where he typically operates as a striker.

Last night, however, he was watching on as Samba stole the show. The Reds hero saved three Sheffield United penalties in the shootout as Forest progressed to the play-off final.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Forest now face Huddersfield Town for a place in the Premier League and naturally, it will be the club’s biggest game for many years.

Steele played for Forest at a time when Aitor Karanka was in charge, although he actually made his Championship debut for the club under Martin O’Neill.

Following Samba’s heroics, Steele has made light of the fact that Samba was the goalkeeper who essentially replaced him at Forest.

The Congolese stopper arrived in the summer of 2020 and it was thought he would provide backup for Manchester City loanee Arijanet Muric.

Within weeks he was number one though. Muric looked badly out of his depth and found himself back at City after falling out of favour.

Samba hasn’t looked back. He’s now firmly established as the number one goalkeeper and after last night he will go down in City Ground folklore.

Steele sends comical quip to Forest star Samba

The former Forest man has made light of the fact that he was replaced at the City Ground by Samba. Steele still enjoyed his time at Forest, although it’s fair to say he craved more football.

He reacted on Twitter following Samba’s heroics and suggested that it was him that told Forest to go out and sign Samba in 2020.

Of course, that wasn’t the case. He also had time to heap some praise on Samba, however, calling him very impressive for his performance last night.

Forest will hope that Samba can be equally capable in the final in just over a week’s time. If he is, Forest might just be on their way to the top flight.
