Brennan Johnson became the first Nottingham Forest player to score in both legs of a play-off game since his dad in 2003 on Tuesday night. After the game, he received praise from Leeds star Tyler Roberts and Alex Mighten.
The Reds were largely disappointing throughout Tuesday’s game. Johnson did give the Reds a 1-0 lead on the night though before they were pegged back in the second half.
After a 2-1 win for Sheffield United, the game went to extra-time and when the scores were still level it meant a penalty shootout would be needed to separate the two teams.
Johnson scored his penalty with aplomb in the shootout and helped Forest on their way to a 3-2 win; with Brice Samba saving three United spot-kicks.
The 20-year-old has been sensational for Forest this season. He’s scored 18 goals and claimed 10 assists and it’s been his first season playing regular Championship football.
Johnson will be well versed when it comes to playing in a play-off final. He went to the League One showdown last season with Lincoln and registered an assist.
He will hope to help Forest over the line. Premier League football is just 90 minutes away from the Reds and it would end 20 years of hurt for the football club.
Johnson receives praise and Forest star deserves every bit of it
The forward has been in fine form. He’s really kicked on since Christmas and he’s relished being part of every single Forest game in the Championship this season.
At 20, he’s in line for a really strong career and if Forest reach the Premier League he looks certain to receive a new contract with the club.
Johnson plays for Wales and there he’s often been a teammate with Leeds star Roberts. He reacted to his Instagram post following Tuesday’s heroics.
Mighten has found game time difficult at Forest this season. He has reacted to Johnson’s post implying that he loves the big games.
