West Brom have opened talks with Jed Wallace leaving Nottingham Forest sweating on their pursuit of the free-agent winger.

The Reds spent the January transfer window trying to sign the Millwall man but the Lions stayed firm with their play-off aspirations still on the line.

Wallace has been offered a new contract. It does seem unlikely, however, that he will commit his future to the Londoners and a move looks to be on the cards.

Albion were largely disappointing during the 2021/22 campaign. Steve Bruce’s arrival didn’t spark them into life and they were forced to settle for a mid-table finish.

Now, his aim will be to sign the relevant players that can put the Baggies back into the mix next season.

Wallace has been a stalwart for the Lions over the past five years. He’s made 259 appearances, scoring 42 goals and claiming 48 assists for the club he signed for from Wolves.

Forest will go in search of new players themselves in the summer. The problem right now, however, is that the Reds still don’t know what division they will be in next season.

With that in mind, the recruitment drive will have to wait for now.

West Brom open talks with Wallace and Forest need to act

Regardless of what division the Reds find themselves in next season, Wallace could prove a useful signing.

He can play on either flank or through the middle and on a free transfer it really does seem like a no-brainer.

West Brom will have a significant amount of money to offer in the transfer market; certainly in the way of wages.

Forest are a club on the up though and if they can secure Premier League status, Wallace will surely jump at the chance to sign terms at the City Ground.

The 28-year-old isn’t at a bad age for a winger. He’s proven in the Championship and given his lethal nature from deal ball situations, he could prove ideal in a Steve Cooper side.
