Leeds and Southampton want to sign James Garner next season following his exploits at Nottingham Forest during 2021/22.

According to The Athletic, the Reds midfielder will be on the radar of both Premier League clubs during the summer.

Forest will have their own ambitions regarding Garner.

The Reds must first win promotion to the Premier League by beating Huddersfield at Wembley tomorrow.

After that, plans will be put in place for the new season and if the Reds are a top-flight club, the possibility of re-signing Garner would be increased.

There is also the prospect that Manchester United could decide to keep him.

Erik ten Hag typically utilises younger players and he will almost certainly run the rule over Garner during pre-season.

If United do end their long wait for a world-class number six, however, Garner’s future will look bleak.

After 18 months of playing regular football, the 21-year-old will want to continue that next season.

He’s spoken fondly about his time at Forest previously but Leeds and Southampton do provide established options.

First, Forest have to take care of business at Wembley.

If the result goes the way of the Reds, a discussion will surely take place with United regarding next season.

Leeds and Southampton want Garner but Forest can seal hat-trick

It’s remarkable considering he was class last season but Garner has been even better during 2021/22.

He has developed into a quality midfielder under Steve Cooper and that won’t have gone unrecognised at Old Trafford.

Forest have a proud history with younger players and plenty of clubs will fancy sending their burgeoning talents to the City Ground.

Garner’s future is currently up in the air.

With United appointing a new manager, it remains to be seen how the landscape looks for Garner at his parent club.

Leeds and Southampton are both sizeable clubs but given his affiliation with the club, it could be Forest who holds the aces over Garner.

First, they have to win at Wembley tomorrow.
