Steve Cooper has made a ridiculous claim ahead of Nottingham Forest taking on Huddersfield Town in the Championship Play-Off Final.

It’s rare that anyone associated with Forest disagrees with anything Cooper says.

The head coach has been outstanding since taking over and he’s brought an admirable air of optimism to the team.

Regardless of what happens at Wembley, Forest are in good hands with Cooper at the helm.

He has improved every player in the squad and taken the team from the bottom of the league and into the play-offs.

So what has Cooper said?

Well, in his pre-match press conference he’s suggested that he doesn’t want to let the supporters down.

The fact he’s even thinking that might be the case is astonishing and he needs to forget that thought process.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “It means a lot to me that if people are feeling proud about their club. I’m very proud of that.

“It also makes me feel that we’ve got to keep striving to improve. We’ve got to keep striving not to let anyone down.

“If people are feeling proud of their club, then let’s do our very best to increase that and not take it for granted. I like feeling like that.”

Cooper makes Forest claim and he doesn’t need to worry about letting fans down

There is little to worry about for Cooper. Of course, he will want to finish the job and get Forest into the Premier League but he’s already done wonders at the City Ground.

Even if the worst-case scenario happens at Wembley, Forest are capable of going again under Cooper.

The squad is clearly enjoying playing for the head coach and although new players would be needed, the Reds would be considered among the promotion favourites next season.

It feels almost wrong to disagree with anything that Cooper says.

Since he checked in he’s said – and done – all of the right things across the football club.

We can’t agree with any potential notion that he might have let anyone down though and the Forest boss must get those thoughts out of his head.
