Nottingham Forest are back in the Premier League – and Aston Villa ace Matty Cash joined in the celebrations on Twitter this evening.
With the League One and League Two playoff finals out of the way, all eyes were on Forest and Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon.
Wembley Stadium played host to a playoff between two teams that certainly weren’t being backed for the top six back in September.
Here they were though, and it was Forest who ran out 1-0 winners in the London sun.
Levi Colwill’s own goal won it for Forest, inadvertently deflecting James Garner’s first-half strike into his own net.
Nottingham Forest are back in the Premier League
Forest weren’t exactly easy on the eye in the second half and attacks weren’t exactly flowing as Steve Cooper would probably like.
MORE FOREST STORIES
Yet the back three of Joe Worrall, Steve Cook and Scott McKenna stood strong to keep Huddersfield at bay.
Huddersfield did have two strong penalty shouts turned down in the second half and may feel a little aggrieved.
Nobody connected with Forest will care though and one former player has joined in the celebrations today.
Right back Matty Cash emerged as a teenager at Forest, shining at the City Ground whilst racking up 141 appearances.
Cash moved on to Aston Villa in 2020 and has not only become a top Premier League defender but also a Poland international.
Cash showed Forest are still close to his heart this evening, taking to Twitter to congratulate Forest whilst adding that their achievement is ‘unbelievable’.
Mired in the bottom three under Chris Hughton back in September, Forest are now in the Premier League – and that means facing off against Cash and Villa next season.
Cash will have to put his love for Forest aside when they meet next season, but you can hardly blame him for being in celebratory mood tonight.
