Manchester United will let Nottingham Forest have first dibs on signing James Garner should they decide to loan him out again.

According to 90 Min, the Red Devils could be willing to let the midfielder out on loan again and would prefer for him to play Premier League football.

Following Sunday’s win over Huddersfield at Wembley, Forest are back among the country’s elite and they could now swoop for Garner again.

The 21-year-old has been inspirational for Forest during their promotion-winning campaign.

He arrived back in August following a 20-game loan spell during the second half of last season under Chris Hughton.

Interestingly, Steve Cooper had tried to take Garner to Swansea prior to him returning to the City Ground in the summer.

Since checking in at the club the Welshman has helped the United man to develop as a player.

Erik ten Hag has arrived at Old Trafford and that could see some of the club’s younger talents earn a chance.

There is a sense that he will sign some players though; with a new number six likely to sit high on his list of targets.

That could be bad news for Garner and United might feel his development would be best served with another stint on Trentside.

United could loan out Garner and Forest should sign him

Continuity could be key for Forest next season.

As a result, adding Garner back to the ranks would be ideal from the Reds’ point of view.

Cooper will know that the team spirit dragged Forest all the way to promotion and that counts for a lot.

Garner gave every bead of blood, sweat and tears for the Reds during 2021/22 and he will go down as one of the club’s best-ever loan players.

Signing Garner would bolster Forest’s midfield ahead of the new season and United must be impressed with how the club have treated him so far.

Cooper is a master when it comes to working with younger players.

With that in mind, he must do whatever it takes to try and get Garner back in the Garibaldi next season.
