Nottingham Forest will play Premier League football next season after they defeated Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Wembley play-off final on Sunday.

The Reds ended 23 years of hurt with a gritty performance against a Terriers team that fancied their chances of victory.

Now, the tough work will get underway behind the scenes. Forest will need some additions to come in ahead of their first Premier League season for some time.

In order to make space for players, some others will have to leave and their futures will lie elsewhere.

Here we look at five players who could now depart the City Ground after winning promotion with the Reds.

Xande Silva

The youngster clearly enjoyed getting involved with the celebrations but it doesn’t seem as though he has a future at Forest.

He’s barely been used by Steve Cooper and he looks almost certain to be one of the players who make way this summer.

Silva made just 10 appearances in his maiden season on Trentside after arriving from West Ham for £200,000 in August.

He never really showcased much quality during his appearances and he managed just one assist during 2021/ 22.

As a result, his time could be up given that he looks some way short of possessing the quality required for the Premier League.

Alex Mighten

Make no mistake, Mighten’s long-term future will be at Forest. For now, however, the player will likely be allowed to make a loan exit.

The 20-year-old started just five league games all season during 2021/22, scoring one goal and claiming one assist.

As a result, his development has stalled and it looks unlikely that game time will be forthcoming in the Premier League.

A loan spell at Lincoln worked wonders for Brennan Johnson and perhaps Mighten will also benefit from a temporary stint away from Trentside.

Gaetan Bong

Another player who enjoyed the celebrations but the defender is another who will certainly be leaving this summer.

Bong arrived during the ill-fated January transfer window of 2020 when the club didn’t back Sabri Lamouchi in the market.

He struggled with injuries upon his arrival and as a result, he struggled for consistency and a regular place in the team.

Now, Bong will be on the lookout for another club and Forest will welcome his wage away from the budget.

Cafu

The 29-year-old has been a brilliant team player during 2021/22 and he’s earned praise from Steve Cooper when called upon.

Given his age though, he will want to play and ultimately he’s unlikely to do that on a regular basis in the Premier League.

Cafu has given his all during the two seasons he’s been at the club and when called upon he’s done a job.

The Portuguese performer simply deserves to play and with that in mind, there’s every reason to believe he could be on his way this summer.

Loic Mbe Soh

This one would be perhaps a bit disappointing given that he’s only 20-years-old and could still improve.

The youngster is way down the pecking order though and like Cafu, he will be craving regular football.

Mbe Soh is behind Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna, Steve Cook and Jonathan Panzo; whilst the club have already been linked with several central defenders.

The French youngster arrived amid a glowing reputation in France and he’s even been nominated for the FIFA Golden Boy award previously.

Cooper doesn’t seem to fancy him though and that could spell a departure.
