Wales Online raved about Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson for his performance from the bench as Wales booked their World Cup spot.

Rob Page’s team won 1-0 against Ukraine. Now, Johnson will be eyeing a starting berth in Qatar later this year.

Despite 19 goals and 10 assists during 2021/22, the Forest man was forced into a place on the bench in the World Cup play-off final.

Gareth Bale and Dan James started in the wide positions and Johnson settled for a cameo.

He was introduced from the bench with 16 minutes remaining and he did cover himself in glory when he came on.

Johnson’s first action was to strike the post and he was desperately unlucky not to wrap the game up for Wales.

Still, he earned some praise from Wales Online, who claimed: “He was so unlucky to hit the post just moments after coming on. Lively cameo.”

Johnson was praised by his manager, Page, after the game too.

He claimed that he thought Johnson would become a superstar at some point in the future.

He’s not wrong either. The Forest man has been stunning during 2021/22 and he’s developed at a frantic rate under Steve Cooper.

The challenge for Johnson now is to hit the ground running in the top-flight. If he does that he should win a starting spot for Wales at the World Cup.

Johnson raved about and Forest have themselves a serious player

The Reds can count themselves really lucky to have a player like Johnson in their ranks.

Had they not won promotion, clubs would undoubtedly be circling to sign the 21-year-old this summer.

Now, Forest should be able to keep hold of their star man for at least another season.

The Reds are in talks over a new deal for the player with just one year remaining on his existing deal.

Johnson showcased against Premier League teams in the FA Cup last year that he’s capable of becoming the real deal.

Now, it seems as though he’s set for a bright future on the international stage too.

The World Cup beckons for Johnson.
