It’s been a matter of hours since The Athletic broke some upsetting news about Brice Samba wanting to leave Forest. Now, it’s emerged that Ligue 1 outfit Lens are keen on signing the stopper.
Get French Football News suggest that boss Franck Haise badly wants Samba. It’s thought that the team who finished 7th last season have made him a summer priority.
Samba has been at the City Ground since signing from Caen in 2019. He was originally signed as a backup option but quickly established himself as the club’s number one.
The 28-year-old has made 133 appearances for the Reds. Now, it looks as though his last might have come during the Championship play-off final at Wembley where Forest beat Huddersfield 1-0.
If Samba leaves, Forest will be well within their rights to demand big money. Although he has a year remaining on his existing deal, he has been an integral part of the Reds team for three years.
Lens are unlikely to have big bucks to spend. As a result, they might not get their manager’s wish of landing his number one priority by poaching Samba from Forest.
The Reds are hopeful that a resolution can take place. From the article earlier it sounds as though Samba wants an extension that reflects his importance to the team.
Given his brilliance, it’s natural for him to expect some sort of pay rise for his efforts last season. The Reds continue talks and it’s hoped that a new deal can be agreed with the player.
Lens want Samba but Forest will hope to strike a deal
This would be a shame from a Forest perspective. He has been a key player, certainly over the last 12 months and it’d be a shame to see someone that Steve Cooper holds in high regard leave.
This could be nothing more than a little power trip. Samba will dearly want to play for Forest in the Premier League and he’s perhaps expecting a little bit more from his contract.
The Reds won’t want to go out and spend millions on a goalkeeper. Samba is more than deserving of a chance in the Premier League and the fans will hope to see him sign a new deal.
The club will be relaxed over this. Forest were linked with Nick Pope at the weekend and you can bet that the recruitment team at the City Ground are prepared for every eventuality.

Samba is unlikely to get a move to a Premier League club but the top flight in France makes sense.
Forest will hope it doesn’t come to this but Lens fit the profile of a club that will be targeting Samba now that he’s apparently available.
