Dale Taylor offered a timely reminder to Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper with a well-taken goal last night.

Northern Ireland under-21s had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Lithuania as they wrapped up their European under-21 qualifying campaign.

Taylor is set for a bright future and some Northern Irish supporters believe he should be in the senior team.

That will come though, with the 18-year-old viewed as a bright prospect coming through the Forest ranks.

Taylor’s goal typified the youngster. He picked the ball up about 30 yards from goal, skinned one defender with a cheeky nutmeg and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for the under-21s, their campaign ended in disappointment. The visitors scored very late on to ensure they finished level on points with Northern Ireland in Group C.

Still, Taylor was very impressive and naturally, all the talk was around the Forest starlet at the end of the game.

The youngster won’t get a chance to impress Cooper based on one goal against an under-21 Lithuania team.

His chance has been 18 months in the making though and Forest have a head coach who loves giving youth a chance.

The Premier League is likely to be a jump too high at this stage but he could take part in pre-season nonetheless.

At 18, he’s been showing maturity way beyond his years and last season he helped the Reds reach the FA Youth Cup Final.

There, Forest were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United but even then he wasn’t fazed by running out at Old Trafford.

Taylor was on th bench for the first team during their 5-1 win over Swansea and clearly, he’s already in Cooper’s thoughts.

Premier League could alter Forest thought process with Taylor

Had Forest stayed in the Championship, the youngster might have earned himself a crack at the senior ranks.

Now, there really isn’t too much room for sentiment.

When it comes to men’s football, Taylor has played very little and there could be another stage of his development to come.

Forest have a decision to make.

They have to decide whether to promote him to the under-23s on a permanent basis or loan him out during 2022/23.

Either way, Forest look to have a serious player on their hands in Taylor.
