Nottingham Forest have agreed personal terms with Dean Henderson with the goalkeeper now set to join from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.
The Reds are trying to bolster their ranks with a number of new players during the summer transfer window.
Forest reached the Premier League for the first time in 23 years by beating Huddersfield at Wembley just over a fortnight ago.
It would appear that Steve Cooper is keen to start his Forest rebuild from the back, with the United custodian lined up by the head coach.
Henderson is willing to seek a move away from Old Trafford. He is desperate to play regular football in a year when England will head to the World Cup.
Forest loos set to loan the 25-year-old until the end of the season, with a £20 million option to buy included in the deal.
Henderson is one of the country’s burgeoning goalkeeping talents and he’s played once for the England national team.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose to keep the stopper last season, giving him a chance to compete for the gloves with David de Gea.
He couldn’t oust the Spaniard though and both Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick both opted to make De Gea the first choice.
Henderson has played 29 times for United but he’s willing to leave the club this summer in search of regular action.
The talented performer had a two-season loan spell at Sheffield United; one in the Championship and one in the Premier League.
During his time at Bramall Lane, he played 86 times and kept 35 clean sheets for the Blades.
He also drew some praise from Sander Berge during his time in South Yorkshire. Back in March 2020, he called the stopper ‘exceptional’ and ‘insane’ following a steady campaign playing Premier League football.
Forest in talks with Henderson and what a signing this would be
The Reds could find themselves in a situation where they need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Brice Samba has reportedly said that he won’t sign a new contract and would like to leave the City Ground.
Elsewhere, Ethan Horvath has stated his desire to play more frequently as he bids to become the USA’s number one ahead of the World Cup.
Henderson is likely to fancy a switch to the City Ground. As a result, this deal makes a lot of sense for all parties and Forest should move quickly to get this one over the line.
Rumour rating: 9/10 – this is one that Forest fans will welcome unanimously.
Henderson is one of the country’s top talents between the posts and this looks like a really good start to the summer.
It does probably signal the end of Samba at Forest and that might seem somewhat harsh.
Ultimately, the club won’t be held at ransom by players though and the club have moved quickly to land Henderson.
The 25-year-old could be a future star and Forest look set to pull off a serious coup.
