Nottingham Forest have joined five other clubs in the race to sign Rabbi Matondo. The Reds are the latest outfit to declare their interest, with Celtic, Rangers and Leeds also monitoring the situation.

According to Bild, the Reds are now in the mix to sign the winger. He will only cost £3.5 million too, with Schalke now willing to offload the Wales international this summer.

Matondo spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan with Cercle Brugge. He scored 10 goals and claimed two assists from his 27 appearances for the Belgian outfit.

His time at Schalke hasn’t been overly successful. He signed for the Bundesliga outfit in 2019, with Manchester City taking the decision to offload the skilful performer.

In 32 outings for the German club, he’s bagged just two goals. Now, they look to have lost patience with the 21-year-old and will seek to offload him before the new campaign begins.

Matondo typically operates on the left flank. As a result, it’s easy to see why Forest are keen to sign him with the team looking light when it comes to attacking options.

Guardiola praised the winger in 2019, shortly before he decided to sell him. He called him incredible, praising his pace and his undoubted potential to become a good player.

Forest join Matondo race and he could sparkle at City Ground

Signing the youngster won’t come easily to Forest. Celtic, Rangers, Leeds and Brentford will all provide decent options for the player and he could have a big decision to make.

Matondo never played for the City first team. He did score 11 times in 31 appearances for the under-23 outfit and he also spent some time out on loan at Stoke City.

Now he’s a more rounded player. He’s actually made 11 appearances for the senior Wales team and naturally, it looks as though the youngster is set for a bright future.

Forest would dearly love to add some new attackers to their ranks this summer. Although Matondo isn’t the finished article he would tick a lot of boxes for the recruitment staff on Trentside.
