Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth has this morning claimed that Nottingham Forest are close to the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
The deal will see the 25-year-old join initially on loan; with Forest holding an option to buy the custodian for £20 million in the future.
Forest have upped their efforts to sign a new goalkeeper after Brice Samba decided he didn’t want to sign a contract extension with the club.
Henderson is a burgeoning talent. He has played once for England and would have been part of the Euro 2022 squad had he not suffered an injury.
Manchester United were expected to keep their number two stopper. Now, it would seem as though Erik ten Hag has something else up his sleeve in the way of a backup goalkeeper.
This deal will almost certainly signal the end of Samba at Forest. Lens and Nantes have been linked with the stopper who has reportedly said he wants to leave.
Furthermore, Sheth claims that the son of Evangelos Marinakis, Mitiadis, has been instrumental in progressing the talks to get this deal over the line.
This looks like a statement signing from a Forest perspective. Henderson has bags of potential and he represents a huge upgrade on Samba and Ethan Horvath.
Forest close to Henderson signing and Cooper has pulled off a coup
On paper, this looks like a remarkably good signing. Henderson is a wonderful goalkeeper and boasts Premier League experience.
It would seem as though Forest want to start their rebuild from the back. The club has also been forced into this given Samba’s statement of intent.
Henderson will want to play regularly. The World Cup is at the end of the year and he will fancy being part of the squad.
Forest can’t afford to stop here. The hope will be that Henderson’s arrival signals a wave of new additions at the City Ground.
This is a great start though and Henderson looks like a very exciting signing by Cooper.
