The Athletic journalist Charlie Eccleshare might have offered Nottingham Forest a boost in their quest to sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon.
Steve Cooper is keen to bolster his ranks with some new players before the season gets underway in August.
The Reds won promotion to the Premier League at the end of May, ending a 23-year stay away from the top flight.
Now, the squad must be strengthened and Rodon is thought to be one player on the club’s list of targets.
Cooper knows all about the 24-year-old. He was in charge of Swansea when the club opted to sell him to Spurs for £11 million.
In 2019 he raved about his former central defender. Cooper called him ‘exciting’ and ‘fantastic’ following his emergence at senior level.
Now, Rodon could be on the move with Tottenham correspondent Eccleshare claiming as much during a Spurs Q&A.
He’s confirmed that Rodon is available at the right price this summer and will be allowed to leave the club.
Forest will likely be in the market for at least one central defender during the transfer window.
Moussa Niakhate is set to sign from Mainz but if Jonathan Panzo and Loic Mbe Soh go out on loan, another could be sought.
Forest offered boost in Rodon quest and Cooper might pounce
It does seem likely that Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna will get a chance to shine in the Premier League.
Steve Cook might be viewed as an option from the bench, whilst Niakhate might operate as a left-sided wing-back when he first comes in.
As a result, adding Rodon might be something still in the mind of Cooper.
Forest have to add some strength in depth and the Tottenham man will be desperate to play plenty of games prior to the World Cup.
He also ticks the box of having played in the Premier League and he’d be a bit of a coup for Forest this summer.
Wolves and Fulham are also keen so signing him won’t come easily.
If Tottenham are willing to cash in, however, the Reds could get themselves a central defender who could star at the club in the coming years.
