Nottingham Forest face competition for Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles from Championship winners Fulham, according to Chronicle Live.

The Cottagers find themselves in the same boat as Forest trying to sign players who can come in and perform in the Premier League.

Lascelles certainly fits that criteria. He’s been at Newcastle since 2015 when he left Forest and has made 152 appearances in the top division.

Now, times are changing at St James’ Park. They’re now back by a Saudi revolution and will be spending big sums during the summer transfer window.

It is thought that one senior central defender will leave this summer. As a result, Lascelles could be the fall guy, with clubs interested in his services.

At 29, Lascelles doesn’t overly fulfil the Dane Murphy mantra. The defender would command a transfer fee and that’s not something Forest’s CEO tends to do for players of a certain age.

It’s fair to say that Lascelles should have suitors though. It wasn’t long ago that his form for Newcastle was attracting admiring glances from other clubs; whilst an England call-up also came into question.

Lascelles is experienced and ultimately he’s a very capable Premier League defender. With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see top-flight clubs vying for his services.

Forest face competition for Lascelles and Fulham perhaps have the edge

It’s fair to say that Lascelles would probably welcome a return to the City Ground. He made 65 appearances for the club the first time around having come through the academy ranks.

Forest have perhaps moved on from their former player right now, however.

The club are locked in talks with Mainz regarding Moussa Niakhate. Alongside Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Steve Cook that would give the Reds a healthy plethora of centre-backs for next season.

Fulham on the other hand do look short at the back. Tosin Adarabioyo is the main central defender but Terence Kongolo and Tim Ream are hardly names to inspire ahead of next season.

As a result, Forest might have slipped behind the Cottagers in the race to sign Lascelles; although that might not necessarily worry the Reds too much.
