Nottingham Forest are considering Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico to fill their void at left wing-back, according to the Daily Mail
The Reds will likely be in the market for a couple of wing-backs and the Argentinean is now on the radar.
Signing Tagliafico would be quite the statement. The 29-year-old was disgruntled with his current club in January as they denied him a move to Barcelona.
Furthermore, Arsenal and Tottenham are long-term admirers of the player with 40 caps for the Argentina national team.
Tagliafico looks set to leave Amsterdam this summer. The player has two years to run on his existing deal and the Reds want to take advantage.
Forest had Max Lowe as their main left-sided wing-back option last season. Jack Colback was the man tasked with providing backup when the youngster suffered two groin injuries.
Sheffield United reportedly want £5 million for Lowe and as a result, Forest looking to be casting their recruitment net further afield.
Marseille are keen to sign the player too and they will have an established top-flight background and Champions League football to sweeten their deal.
Forest will remain hopeful though and a further report from Sport in France, claims that he could cost as little as £3.4 million this summer.
Tagliafico earns £44,000-a-week at Ajax and he’ll likely want a huge wake hike should he head to the City Ground.
Forest considering Ajax star Tagliafico and this would be a stunning capture
This would be a remarkable signing for a newly-promoted side to make.
Tagliafico has been one of Europe’s top-performing left-backs and some seriously good sides have wanted him.
Now, Forest are in the mix and this would represent a serious statement of intent ahead of the Premier League campaign.
Whether the Reds can do a deal remains to be seen but if they can, the supporters will seriously be in dreamland.
Rumour rating: 10/10 – this would be sensational!
Only last summer, Arsenal and Tottenham were both linked with the 29-year-old and Barcelona fancied him in January.
It’s not clear at this stage how keen Tagliafico would be to join Forest.
If Dane Murphy and Evangelos Marinakis can work their persuasive powers, however, the Reds would get themselves a truly wonderful player.
