Various reports have dropped the biggest hints yet that Taiwo Awoniyi is set to sign for Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin.

On Monday, Bild claimed that Awoniyi was due for pre-season testing on Monday but failed to show up.

Forest were thought to have discussed terms with the player over the weekend, with a £17 million transfer on the cards.

Today, BZ Berlin have claimed that the striker said his goodbyes to his teammates and left with his suitcase.

They also claim that he will sign for Forest later this week.

Awoniyi is a former Liverpool player but his time at Anfield was marred by the fact that he couldn’t get a work permit.

He spent several seasons out on loan before moving permanently to Berlin last summer.

Awoniyi took the Bundesliga by storm during 2021/22; scoring 20 goals in all competitions and showcasing his undeniable talent.

Now, a move looks to be on the cards with him missing pre-season testing at his current club extremely telling.

Awoniyi could prove a useful addition for Forest.

The Reds are definitely in need of a striker; with Sam Surridge the only senior striker currently on the books.

Lewis Grabban has been offered a new contract but Keinan Davis has returned to Aston Villa at the end of his loan.

This would be a sensational piece of business and at £17 million he could prove a steal.

The Reds need a striker and given how powerful Awoniyi is he looks like an ideal alternative to Davis.

The Villa man has been valued at £15 million. As good as he was for Forest during the second half of last season, that valuation seems unrealistic.

Forest will need to be savvy in the transfer market.

With Moussa Niakhate also in talks over a move to Forest, it would seem as though the club feels the Bundesliga has some hidden gems.

Jurgen Klopp is said to still be a huge admirer of Awoniyi and Forest might be about to hit the jackpot.
