Nottingham Forest are eyeing a move for Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala, according to Fussball Transfers.

The Reds are clearly casting their net across the Bundesliga this summer.

Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi is close to signing, with Moussa Nikahate also being targeted.

Forest reached the Premier League after winning the play-offs during 2021/22.

The challenge for Steve Cooper now is to build a squad capable of being competitive in the division.

Clearly, the club feels there are plenty of bargains to be had in the Bundesliga this summer.

This is the third link from Germany and Mangala looks like an intriguing player to be considering.

Typically operating in the midfield engine room, Mangala signed for Anderlecht in 2017.

He’s made 109 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit and during 2021/22 he scored once and claimed four assists.

Mangala’s game is more about the defensive side of things, although he can actually play as a number 10.

The 24-year-old has just two years to run on his existing deal and could cost around £17 million.

Mangala could be allowed to leave Stuttgart this summer and Forest are hoping to pounce.

This isn’t the first time he’s been targeted for a move to the Premier League.

Back in 2020, Southampton wanted him to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg following his move to Tottenham.

Forest eyeing Mangala and he could be useful addition

This link sees another unknown quantity from the Bundesliga be linked with a move to Forest.

Stuttgart narrowly avoided relegation during 2021/22, finishing 15th in the Bundesliga.

As a result, they need to go in search of some new players this summer and some could leave.

That could see Mangala head to the Premier League and it’s fair to say Forest need midfielders.

Ryan Yates is at the club but James Garner has returned to Manchester United at the end of his loan.

Cafu, Braian Ojeda and Tyrese Fornah are at the club but are unlikely to be at Premier League level.

Meanwhile, Jack Colback will likely be a backup option during 2022/23.

Rumour rating: 7/10 – we think this would be a pretty useful deal.

Clearly, Geroge Syrianos is doing bits this summer and he used to work at Stuttgart prior to joining Forest.

Now he’s planning a raid on his old club and perhaps another Bundesliga bargain will be on the radar for the Reds.
