Manchester United are in talks to sign Daniel Bachmann from Watford, paving the way for Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest.
Fabrizio Romano says that United are in discussions with the Championship as they aim to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks.
Henderson looks set to join the Reds. The final stages of the deal look set to be completed and he could become Forest’s first new addition.
Romano says that the Henderson deal is one step away. The 25-year-old is desperate to play and should get his wish at the City Ground.
The United number two barely played during 2021/22. He was restricted to just five senior outings, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick preferring David de Gea.
Henderson was called up for the England squad for Euro 2020 last summer. An injury struck though and he was replaced by Aaron Ramsdale in the 23-man group.
Bachmann will likely arrive at Old Trafford and compete with Tom Heaton for the backup goalkeeper position. He has been at Watford since 2017 when he signed from Stoke.
First-team football has been hard to come by in Hertfordshire. He’s made just 41 appearances, keeping 13 clean sheets yet he could now be off to United this summer.
Talks will continue between the parties. It does appear as though the Austrian is under serious consideration by United to replace Henderson next season.
Manchester United want Bachmann and Forest announcement could be close
With Henderson to Forest looking likely, perhaps United not signing a number two has complicated somewhat.
The Red Devils will want to get their own house in order first and perhaps this can smooth through Henderson to Forest.
It would be a remarkable coup made by the Reds if it does go through. That said, it will likely spell the end of Brice Samba on Trentside.
Henderson is viewed as a supremely talented goalkeeper. He is an England number one in the making and Forest will be seriously lucky to get him.
Bachmann joining Manchester United could smooth through the whole process and delight the Forest fans in the process.
