Nottingham Forest tried desperately to sign Jed Wallace during the January transfer window but now the player is set for West Brom.

According to the Portsmouth News, the Baggies are set to sign the player ahead of several Championship outfits.

Burnley, Luton, Watford and QPR were keen to sign the player. Millwall had also offered a new deal to stay at Millwall.

Forest showed big interest in January. The Lions stood firm on their £9 million valuation of their star man and he stayed in the capital.

Wallace is due in West Bromwich for a medical and he will likely sign a long-term deal at The Hawthorns.

The 28-year-old has been a magnificent player for Millwall and losing him will be a big blow ahead of next season.

West Brom have already signed John Swift on a free transfer and this is another shrewd piece of business by Steve Bruce.

Forest were always likely to move on from Wallace once they won promotion. The winger has never played in the top flight and the Championship looks like his level.

During the 2021/22 campaign, Wallace made 38 appearances; bagging six goals and claiming 11 assists.

Wallace set for West Brom and Forest would have pounced has they not won promotion

It does seem very likely that Wallace would have ended up at the City Ground had the Reds not beaten Huddersfield in the play-off final.

He looked set for the City Ground at one point during January and it seemed as though a deal was close.

Now, West Brom are getting themselves a fantastic player and one who is at home in the second tier.

Wallace would have proved a cracking signing on a free transfer but now Forest are in the Premier League they will have bigger fish to fry.

Millwall must be ruing their decision to value the player at £9 million. He will now leave for nothing when Forest had cash ready to buy him just five months ago.
