Nottingham Forest are set to ramp up their efforts to sign Arsenal man Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds are trying to sign some new players and the Gunners outcast is on the market.

Maitland-Niles spent the second half of last season on loan with Roma and now he is seeking a permanent move.

The 24-year-old has helped Arsenal to three FA Cup titles and recently helped his temporary club claim the Europa Conference League.

Maitland-Niles is a vastly experienced player having made 132 appearances for the Gunners during his career.

The Hale End academy graduate spent some of the 2020/21 campaign on loan with West Bromwich Albion.

There he showcased his versatility, playing 32 times and featuring in a number of different positions.

Forest will likely view Maitland-Niles as an alternative to Djed Spence though.

The right-sided wing-back is set to join Tottenham and Forest look to have missed out on the 21-year-old.

Steve Cooper has now decided to target other options and Maitland-Niles is high on the list of alternatives.

Forest will likely face competition from other teams and they might need to act quickly with this one.

Maitland-Niles has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal but boss Mikel Arteta has praised him previously.

Back in November 2021, he was lauded following a rare Gunners outing against Watford.

The Gunners boss called him a ‘huge talent’ and ‘really important’ for his display against the Hornets.

Forest ramp up Maitland-Niles efforts and he could star

The Reds could certainly do a lot worse than land Arsenal man Maitland-Niles.

He can play on either flank or as a central midfielder and that versatility will impress Steve Cooper.

Maitland-Niles has even played five times for England and clearly, he’s a talented performer.

Last season he headed to Roma and that loan move didn’t really work out for him.

He made 12 appearances in all competitions and he would have hoped for more under Jose Mourinho.

As a result, a move to Forest makes a lot of sense as he’d play lots of football and he could start fulfilling some of his potential.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – this would be a very decent addition to the Forest ranks.

You don’t play over 130 times for Arsenal unless you’re doing something right and Maitland-Niles can play.

The Reds need new players and Maitland-Niles would give the team some versatility in their ranks.

The Arsenal man wouldn’t cost the earth and hopefully, this is a deal that Forest can get over the line.
