Sheffield United and Blackburn are eyeing an ambitious raid on Malmo to sign ex-Nottingham Forest man Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to The Sun.

The Blades have some cash to spend this summer and are looking for a new defender.

Ahmedhodzic joined Bordeaux during the January transfer window on loan until the end of the season.

They were relegated at the end of the campaign and as a result, can no longer afford to sign him on a permanent deal.

Ahmedhodzic has now returned to Malmo where he is expected to be sold during the summer transfer window.

Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson could hold the aces though having previously managed the 23-year-old.

United would perhaps be the more attractive option though given the size of the club and the history behind it.

Paul Heckingbottom revived the club’s fortunes last season but his Blades couldn’t find a way past Forest in the play-off semi-final.

Ahmedhodzic is a decent player and in 2020 he was courted by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Now, his career has stalled somewhat and heading to Bordeaux in January didn’t exactly prove to be a good career move.

Ahmedhodzic left Forest in 2019. He cited a desire to return to his homeland, with the Reds unwilling to stand in his way.

He played just once for the first team at the City Ground. His only outing came under Philippe Montanier during a defeat away at Newcastle.

Ahmedhodzic’s career at Forest lasted just six minutes and perhaps the lack of football promoted him to demand a move away.

Sheffield United and Blackburn want Ahmedhodzic but should Forest pounce?

This is an interesting one and could give the Reds some food for thought.

It’s not too long since the top sides in the Premier League were eying Ahmedhodzic and clearly, he’s a top talent.

Relegation with Bordeaux may have dented his confidence a little bit but he looks far too good for the Championship.

At £3 million, Forest might be wise to get in on the act.

He is tall, plays the ball well and rarely loses an aerial challenge given his uncompromising stature.

Forest do perhaps have their sights set on other defensive targets this summer.

At £3 million Ahmedhodzic looks a steal though and perhaps there is still some time for Forest to enter this race.
