Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Joe Rodon during the summer transfer window but Jose Mourinho is trying to take him to Roma from Tottenham.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Europa Conference League winners want to sign Rodon, with their manager having worked with the central defender previously.
Forest will go on the hunt for several players this summer. The Reds secured promotion back to the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield in the play-off final.
Now, the hard work starts as Steve Cooper looks to add some quality to his ranks. Taiwo Awoniyi has already been signed and he was unveiled by the club on Saturday morning.
Forest will now target some defenders. At least one central defender will be targeted with Moussa Niakhate, Jamaal Lascelles and Rodon all being heavily linked.
The Wales international will be allowed to leave Tottenham this summer. He’s fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte and he’s likely to try and strengthen his own defensive ranks.
Mourinho’s interest doesn’t bode well. Roma are one of the top teams in Europe and Rodon was utilised more frequently during the Portuguese boss’ time at Tottenham.
The Wales international made 13 appearances in total under Mourinho. Clearly, he saw something in the youngster and now he’s keen to reunite with him.
Forest keen to sign Rodon and they must act
If Forest are seriously considering the £24,000-a-week Tottenham man, they have to act. It seems that interest will be rife in his services and clubs will be queuing up to take him.
With the World Cup at the end of the year, Rodon will want to play. Forest should have a space for another central defender and he’d likely play plenty of regular football.
Forest could have an ace up their sleeve – or rather in the dugout – when it comes to signing Rodon. The defender was handed a regular spot in the team by Steve Cooper and he made 54 appearances under the Forest boss.
Rodon could thrive at Forest. He’d want to go to the World Cup in form and he will surely realise that at the City Ground he’d have the potential to be a big fish in a small pond.
Mourinho will have a significant attraction to players. Playing regularly will mean a lot to Rodon though and as a result, Forest must act to land the 27-cap star.
