Djed Spence making an emotional return to Nottingham Forest is not completely out of the question, according to Football League World. The defender has been heavily linked with Tottenham and it’s expected that he will end up there.

Forest had Spence on loan during the 2021/22 campaign. He made 42 appearances with the Reds doing the unthinkable and winning promotion to the Premier League and ending 23 years outside the top division.

Now, the defender’s future is unclear. Two rounds of talks have taken place between Middlesbrough and Tottenham; with Steve Gibson commanding close to £20 million from any club that wants to sign Spence on a permanent basis.

Since discovering that Spence held a desire to sign for Spurs, Forest have been linked with other options. Liverpool defender Neco Williams looks like the top target; with Manchester City player Issa Kabore also lined with a move to the City Ground.

Spence would likely be the most popular signing of the summer. Tottenham won’t be held at ransom forever and Antonio Conte will likely have other irons in the fire just in case this impasse between them and Boro continues.

He’d be more than welcome back on Trentside. Spence was worshipped by the Forest fan base during his season-long spell; with his mum becoming a cult hero with her wild celebrations following the play-off victories.

Furthermore, Ian Wright raved about him after Forest beat Arsenal in January. He called him ‘unbelievable’ for his heroics; with Gabriel Martinelli calling him the best full-back he’d faced all season.

Spence to Forest not yet dead and this will be must to the ears of supporters

This would be welcome news. Spence would be a magnificent addition to the Forest ranks and he’d help Steve Cooper’s team continue some of the momentum that helped them reach the promised land of the Premier League last season.

Tottenham will likely still fancy their chances of getting this deal done. They have the lure of Champions League football and ultimately, it’s Middlesbrough that appears to be playing hardball to stop the deal from going through at the moment.

With Liverpool seemingly undecided on how much they will demand for Williams, Forest could return for Spence. It’s been claimed previously that they’re relaxed over the possibility of not getting him back but Cooper is a big fan.

This news will come as something of a shock to Forest. They must have thought that a deal for Spence to go to Tottenham will have been sorted by now and the fact that it’s not, does offer a glimmer of hope for the Reds.

Forest fans will have everything crossed that Spence doesn’t go to Tottenham. If they look elsewhere, the Reds could pounce and getting him back to the City Ground would make a lot of people happy on Trentside.
