Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo will officially join Hull City on Friday when his City Ground deal expires. The player was unveiled by the club yesterday and the length of his contract has been confirmed.

Figueiredo is leaving Forest having spent four years at the club. He was on the bench last month as the Reds won promotion to the Premier League at Wembley.

He made 28 appearances during Forest’s promotion-winning campaign. Figueiredo wasn’t really deemed as the first choice under Steve Cooper but he did a tremendous job when called upon.

Interestingly, the 28-year-old’s final start for Forest came against Hull. Figueiredo started as the Reds drew 1-1 at the MKM Stadium on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Portuguese performer checked in at Forest shortly after Aitor Karanka was appointed as the club’s manager. He initially signed on loan during the January transfer window and made a permanent move from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.

He proved a pretty reliable option for Forest on the whole. Figueiredo did have some erratic tendencies but he leaves the club having made 121 appearances for the club in total.

Some reports suggested that Figueiredo was homesick. That came about when he was linked with a move to Vitoria during the January transfer window.

That notion was quickly dismissed by the defender. He claimed he was happy at Forest and held a desire to stay at the club and play Premier League football.

That won’t be happening next season. Figueiredo will have to embark on Championship football but with ambitious owners, his top-flight desire could come true.

Figueiredo has penned a two-year contract with the Tigers. The club have also got an option to extend that by a year should they wish to do so at the end of that period.

Forest fans are pretty unanimous in wishing Figueiredo well. Hull have got themselves a fine Championship defender and a player that gives his all every time he steps on the pitch.
