Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson is set to sign a new contract at the City Ground, John Percy has confirmed on Twitter.
It’s been a hot topic of discussion among the Forest fan base over the last 12 months.
Johnson’s contract expiring in 2023 has made supporters anxious but promotion to the Premier League has tempted the 21-year-old into an extension.
The Wales international was phenomenal last season. He scored 19 goals and claimed 10 assists as the Reds won the Championship play-offs.
Johnson has come through the academy ranks on Trentside.
He was loaned out during 2020/21 to Lincoln City. Working under Michael Appleton he scored 13 goals and claimed 14 assists for the Imps.
That promoted Chris Hughton to give him a chance in the first time at the start of last season.
It was under Steve Cooper where he really started to get going, thriving after being given something of a free role in the final third.
Johnson has been a long-term target for several Premier League clubs.
Brentford saw four bids rejected last January, with Forest standing firm amid their push towards promotion.
Leeds, Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been linked but now he’s set to commit his future to Forest.
Johnson to sign new contract and Forest fans will be delighted
The Reds forward has taken to playing in the first team with ease and he will relish the Premier League.
Johnson is an exciting performer and one who gets the Reds fans out of their seat in every single game.
Now, his future will remain at the City Ground and not only that but his value will only continue to skyrocket in the coming years.
Next, Steve Cooper will be offered fresh terms by Forest.
Keeping him at the club is arguably as important if not more crucial than this deal for Johnson.
Forest is once again a club that players want to stay at and keeping hold of the crown jewels is something that the Reds need to become accustomed to once again.
