Nottingham Forest are edging ever closer to announcing the signing of Manchester United man Dean Henderson. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on Twitter that there are no issues and an announcement will come in the next few days.
The goalkeeper will join the Reds on a season-long loan from Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag has sanctioned the deal and the 25-year-old will hope to play plenty of games.
Henderson made just three appearances during 20201/22. United exited both domestic cup competitions early doors and that didn’t help his case for regular action.
Forest will complete a coup when Henderson is over the line. Tottenham and Newcastle have both been linked with a move for the England goalkeeper in recent times.
Now, the Reds will land the sought-after player to replace the outgoing Brice Samba. Once Henderson has been confirmed his move to Lens should accelerate considerably.
Henderson has a clear incentive to play well. England will head to the World Cup later this year and after cruelly missing out on Euro 2022 through injury, he will hope to gatecrash the party.
Forest are going in search of several new signings. One new addition has already been announced, with Taiwo Awoniyi joining for £17 million from Union Berlin.
Forest edging close to Henderson deal and this is a massive coup
Samba will go down into Forest folklore. His heroics in the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United have etched his name into history.
Despite that, Henderson does represent an upgrade. He’s played 49 times in the Premier League and has also turned out for Manchester United on 29 occasions.
Forest need more signings of this ilk. The Premier League season will come around very quickly once pre-season gets underway and the club will be hard at work.
Henderson does rule out a third loan spell at Forest for James Garner. Under Premier League restrictions, the Reds can only have one loan player from any one top-flight team.
Still, this is a ridiculously good signing and Henderson could help Forest fight bravely against relegation during 2022/23.
