Brice Samba is edging closer to the Nottingham Forest exit as Lens are nearing an agreement with the Reds for his transfer.

According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 outfit are set to fork out £4.5 million for the goalkeeper’s signature in the coming days.

Forest are offloading Samba following promotion to the Premier League and after three years at the City Ground.

Shortly after the Reds had won promotion, Samba rejected a new deal and said he had no plans to sign a new contract on Trentside.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation at Forest. He arrived from Caen in 2019 and became number one almost immediately.

Samba was instrumental in helping Forest achieve promotion to the Premier League during 2021/22.

His performance in the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United was unbelievable.

As a result, he can leave with his head held high and safe in the knowledge that he gave his all for the club.

Now, his time at the club looks to be over. Lens are expected to wrap up a deal for Samba after the Reds landed Dean Henderson over the weekend.

Forest have got themselves a sizeable fee for a player who had just a year to run on his deal and that will delight the club.

For a little while, this had threatened to get messy. Samba wasn’t happy with the contract he was offered and immediately claimed he wouldn’t sign an extension.

That, of course, was his prerogative but it has cost him a crack at the Premier League with Forest.

His future now lies in France and he will hope to quickly establish himself as the number one at Lens.

Samba has etched his name into folklore at Forest. His play-off heroics won’t be forgotten and he does deserve a huge amount of praise.

There is a new dawn breaking at the Reds though and as a result, sentiment is not on the agenda going forward.
