Brice Samba has posted an emotional montage of his time at Nottingham Forest as he prepares to head through the exit. Following his heartfelt post, Djed Spence, Brennan Johnson and Cafu have reacted.
The Congolese stopper is set to be announced by Lens. Samba is leaving the Reds for a fee of £4.3 million having rejected the offer of a new contract and stated his intention to leave.
Samba played for Forest 133 times after arriving for £1.8 million from Caen in 2019. He became number one almost immediately and has been the regular custodian for three years.
The 28-year-old will now head back to Ligue 1. He’s previously played in the top-flight of French football and now he will aim to help his new club qualify for Europe next season.
It really is a shame that it’s come to this. Samba should have been given the chance to shine in the Premier League; especially given his heroics in helping Forest return to the top table.
The Reds have moved quickly to replace Samba. Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson checked in last weekend and he’s with the squad in Spain right now.
Samba will go down in Forest folklore. His two saves during the play-off semi-final with Sheffield United and three penalty saves in the shootout were truly heroic and that will never be forgotten.
Message posted by Samba sums up how he feels about Forest
It’s great to see that this sage is ending a bit more amicably. Some weeks ago it felt as though things would turn a little bit nasty and nobody would have benefitted from that.
Some players took to Instagram to thank Samba for his efforts. Johnson, Cafu and Spence all posted fond messages ahead of the player’s pending transfer.
Brennan Johnson: “Love you, bro.”
Djed Spence: “Legend.”
Cafu: “Samba, Samba, Samba. Thank you for everything, my bro!!! Good luck for the future.”
Samba’s move to Lens is now expected to go through imminently. A medical was completed this morning and all that’s left is for both clubs to officially make the announcement.
